Shelter Box

As part of our program Shelter Box came in and gave a presentation to all three sections. Here’s what our Beaver Section got up to.

Over the period of two weeks we learnt about ShelterBox, and what this charity does, with the Young Leaders, who took up this challenge. The Beavers learnt about the reasons as to why the ShelterBox organisation are called upon as well as what sort of things are in a box which is sent out to aid those in disasters. They also were read a story, and 2 games which were related to this organisation. Well done to the Young Leaders as this is not an easy subject.

The following week was the turn of the volunteers from ShelterBox, to teach our noisy Beavers a thing or two about their charity. They asked if the children knew anything about ShelterBox, and many of them remembered some details from the Young Leaders evening the week before, which definitely impressed the ShelterBox volunteers. Next the volunteers somehow managed to get all 22 Beavers to play a part in putting the shelter up, much to the amazement of the Leaders. Then out came a large box which contained every main essential that people in disasters would need. This was very interesting to see. Lastly all the Beavers laid down in the shelter to see how many of them could get in a family size shelter and they all fitted in there quite comfortably, and many wanted to stay in there.

A big thank you to the volunteers of shelter box, who taught us all something about their charity.
