Bear Grylls Night

Our Scouts recently held a Bear Grylls night, The evening started with a challenges and games Bear style before moving on to a bit of Man vs Wild. They watched the Bear Eats special and survived most of the scenes, think it was the fluid from the Elephant dung that got the most reaction, something to do with the large bits falling off into his mouth!

Next up Gadget set the scene with a tale of how the Scouts found themselves stranded on a island and being Scouts they built a shelter and got a fire going and then had to find food. Whilst sitting on there island thinking what they could do a beetle goes walking past, so you grab it, at this point Gadget now has a beetle in his hand, they look at the beetle and could think I’m here on my own, I’ll keep him and talk to him, I’ll call him Bob or you could look at it and think theres protein in that, I’ll call him dinner. Gadget then ate the Beetle to a few cries of ‘NO’ and ‘was that a real one’.

The Leaders then explained that in there confused state whilst stranded they might find making the decision between Bob and dinner a difficult one. 100% no not a problem it’s Bob every time was the reply, but being the kind, considerate and caring Leaders that we are we would help them and produced a plate of bugs for them to eat. It consisted of Bamboo Worms, Silk Worms, Giant Crickets and Buffalo Dung Beetles !!! (all cooked and lightly seasoned, we’re not that cruel). Most dived in and couldn’t get enough a few took some time before trying some, the just pretend it’s a peanut M & M didn’t work as someone pointed out they don’t make black ones and they don’t have legs! by the end of the night everyone had tried something and the troop was split 50/50 between Bob and Dinner.

A great fun night, looking forward to the next bit in the summer, water from wee was mentioned !!
