Anglers Badge 2014

The Scouts and older Cubs arrived at Cottington Lakes early Saturday morning, and what a morning it was, baking hot and not a cloud in the sky.

Just hoped the fishing would be as good as the weather!

Once the day tickets had been sorted it was up to the lake to get setup and start fishing. Some had done it before, some had parents with them, some had no idea! Those that had never fished before were given a Rod and Reel (that was now theirs to take home at the end of the day) and paired up with a Leader who would coach them through the day.

We had a brilliant day with a steady stream of fish being caught throughout. We had Bream, Roach, Rudd, Common Carp, Mirror Carp, Tench and Perch in all sorts of sizes.

The biggest on the day was around the 9lb mark with the most caught probably going to Alfie (not bad on his first ever fishing trip). He had a golden spell early afternoon when he turned into a Baggin’ Machine. Every cast he had a fish!

Alfie will also go down in the legends of Anglers Badge days as he is the only person we know that has ever caught a Dragon Fly, not a small one, a big Dragon Fly. Gadget managed to clam it down and get it to sit on his hand before removing the hook, it had actually taken the maggot and hooked it’s mouth! I’m sure it had another go later but this time dropped the hook!

Well done Niamh, George, Joe, Ed, Mitchell, Jamie, Adam, Grace, Jorge, Alfie and Ryan, can’t wait for the next one!
