Cub Reculver Hike

Our intrepid Cubs set out on a very cold and windy evening from Reculver Towers – Challenge to walk to Minnis Bay in an hour an half.

We set of and after a short time exploring the Towers and graveyard and Akela’s yarns about ghosts and hauntings, we set off again with a fantastic sunset behind us.       It soon became apparent there are some cubs who can hike and a few that find it difficult.    Swopping around the order soon changed this and with Bailey’s help  (AKela’s dog) – rounding up the stragglers, were soon off again and taking in the view across the marshes to St. Nicholas.      We saw a family of swans close by.

We soon had to stop about a third of way so that the Cubs could eat their emergency rations and the light was starting to fade.       We set off again and this time made some really good time and the cubs got the hand of walking.  Very soon it was dark and all we could see was the lights of Minnis Bay in the distance but with a bright moon torches were not needed (much to the dismay of the cubs).    All too soon the walk was nearing an end, 2 headlights of the bus could be seen in the distance and before we knew it were at the finish line a fully quarter an hour ahead of schedule.

It was however very cold  and Cubs huddled in the bus to keep warm.

Well Done Cubs – this ticks off another activity on  your Adventure Award.
