There are some extra activities which you could do below!

Postcard Pictures

You will need:
• Pens or pencils
• Coloured pens or pencils
• Scissors
• Some card

Fold a sheet of A4 card into half, then into half again – unfold it and then cut along the fold lines so that you get 4 pieces of card that are around the size of a postcard

Make a sketch of a view that you can see, your favourite place, or something
imaginary

Use different colours to help different parts of the scene that you have drawn stand out

You could write a message on the back and send your postcard to someone that you can’t see at the moment! (Be sure to take a picture first so that we can see your work!)

Leaf Royalty

You will need:
• Scissors
• Double-sided sticky tape (or PVA glue, if you don’t have any tape)
• Natural materials (e.g. leaves, twigs, feathers)
• Paper (green or brown works best)

Make the base of your crown by cutting a strip of paper that’s long enough to fit around your head and around 8cm wide (ask an adult for help with this part!)

Get a small piece of double-sided sticky tape, then use the tape to stick the ends of the strip together to make a loop of card

Get a strip of double-sided sticky tape that is long enough to go around the whole crown, stick the tape around your card

Peel the paper off the double-sided sticky tape that you stuck down to your crown

Get creative – push leaves onto the tape until they stick

Leaf Animals

You will need:
• A4 card
• Natural materials (e.g. leaves, twigs, feathers – these will all be easier to use if they are flat and dry)
• PVA glue
• Paint brushes

Look at the materials you have collected, paying attention to the different shapes and sizes, and imagine some animals you could create
a. For example, are any round like a small fluffy chick? Are any spiky like an alligator? Are there any sycamore seeds that look like horns or antlers?

Arrange your materials on a piece of card to make the animal – once you are happy with your design, glue it all down

Add any special features with paint or a pen
a. Does your animal need eyes to see? What about a place to live or sleep?
b. You could create a whole scene!
i. You could add grass, trees, a jungle, or more animals to the scene
ii. You could also use more materials to create a border or frame
